The Records Unit of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office is located at 800 SE Monterey Road, Stuart, FL 34994. The unit is open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. To speak with a records clerk, please call (772) 220-7050.
Copies of public records are available to the public during normal business hours and charges are outlined in the fee schedule below as permitted by Florida Statute. Florida Statute 119.011(1) defines public records to include: all documents, papers, letters, maps, books, tapes, photographs, films, sound recordings, data processing software or other material, regardless of the physical form, characteristics, or means of transmission, made or received pursuant to law or ordinance or in connection with the transaction of official business by any agency. All such materials, regardless of whether they are in final form, are open for public inspection unless the Legislature has exempted them from disclosure. Some exemptions from disclosure are: active criminal investigative and intelligence information, autopsy records, confessions, confidential informants, criminal history information, some domestic violence information, 911 voice recordings, juvenile offender records, inmate records, surveillance techniques, procedures and personnel and some victim information.
Requests made via United States Postal Service must be accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope. At the current time, requests are not fulfilled via facsimile or electronically.
