CULINARY VOCATIONAL PROGRAM

A CHEF IS PROVIDED BY INDIAN RIVER STATE COLLEGE TO PROVIDE BASIC TRAINING AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM FOR APPRENTICE COOKS EACH SEMESTER.  INMATES WHO ARE INTERESTED IN A CAREER IN THE FOOD SERVICE INDUSTRY CAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS PROGRAM.  THEY ARE INSTRUCTED IN SANITATION, MANAGEMENT AND NUTRITION. INMATES RECEIVE THEIR SERVESAFE AND SAFESTAFF CERTIFICATES.  WHEN RELEASED AN INMATE CAN ATTEND INDIAN RIVER STATE COLLEGE TUITION FREE.

HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA)

THE LIBRARY FOUNDATION OF MARTIN COUNTY PROVIDES CERTIFIED INSTRUCTORS TO ENABLE INMATES TO PARTICIPATE IN BASIC ADULT EDUCATION CLASSES. THESE CLASSES ARE DESIGNED TO HELP LOWER FUNCTIONING INMATES ATTAIN FUNCTIONAL LITERACY AND HIGHER FUNCTIONING INMATES THE OPPORTUNITY TO EARN THEIR  HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA.  INMATES WHO ATTEND CLASS WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SIGN UP FOR FINANCIAL AID FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION.

 ALCOHOLICS  ANONYMOUS

A.A. IS A SELF-HELP SUPPORT GROUP CONDUCTED WEEKLY BY COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS FOR INMATES WITH ALCOHOL AND DRUG ADDICTION.

NARCOTIC  ANONYMOUS

N.A MEETINGS ARE CONDUCTED WEEKLY BY LOCAL VOLUNTEERS WHO ARE RECOVERING ADDICTS WHO MEET TOGETHER REGULARLY TO HELP EACH OTHER MAINTAIN A HEALTY LIFE STYLE.

 

A.D.A.P. (Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program)

THE PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE A.D.A.P. PROGRAM IS TO MAKE INMATES MORE AWARE OF PROBLEMS ALCOHOL/DRUGS HAVE CAUSED IN THEIR LIVES; TO ENCOURAGE INMATES TO EVALUATE AND RECOGNIZE POSITIVE ASPECTS OF SOBRIETY AND TO ASSIST INMATES IN LEARNING ALTERNATIVES TO ALCOHOL AND DRUG USE.

INMATE OFFENDER SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM/ FEMALES

NEW HORIZONS OF THE TREASURE COAST PROVIDES  A SUBSTANCE ABUSE INTERVENTION AND EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR THE FEMALES WHO ARE STRUGGLING WITH ALCOHOL AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE ADDICTIONS.  THE INMATE WILL RECEIVE  INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP COUNSELING, INDIVIDUAL TREATMENT PLANNING AND TREATMENT PLAN REVIEWS.

SUPPORTIVE SUBSTANCE ABUSE SERVICES

DUNKLIN PROGRAM PROVIDES A SPIRITUAL, EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL REGENERATION OF ALCOHOLICS AND DRUG ADDICTS.  RECOVERY IS THE LEARNING OF A SET OF SKILLS THAT CAN BE USED FOR THE REST OF  AN INDIVIDUAL’S LIFE TO REMAIN CHEMICAL FREE AND TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES OF LIFE THAT COME TO ALL PEOPLE.  THOSE WITH CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY ISSUES HAVE LEARNED WAYS OF COPING THAT ARE NOT HEALTHY AND THEY MUST LEARN TO PRACTICE NEW SKILLS THAT ARE MORE SUITABLE SO THEY BECOME PROFICIENT  WITH THEM.

CHAPLAINCY SERVICES

THE CHAPLAIN IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PERFORMING DUTIES OF A RELIGIOUS NATURE AND COORDINATING RELATED FUNCTIONS TO BEST MEET THE SPIRITUAL AND PERSONAL NEEDS OF INMATES.  HE/SHE IS THE LIAISON BETWEEN THE JAIL AND COMMUNITY/FAMILY, IN MATTERS THAT HELP IN THE COPING PROCESS RESULTING FROM THE INCARCERATION OF AN INMATE.

MINISTRY

BIBLE STUDY IS OFFERED EACH TUESDAY AND THURSDAY EVENING.  CHURCH IS OFFERED SUNDAY MORNING OR EVENINGS. THESE NON-DENOMINATIONAL BIBLE STUDIES ARE PROVIDED BY VOLUNTEERS.  .

RE-ENTRY PROGRAM

THE OFFICE OF THE PUBLIC DEFENDER CONDUCTS AN OFFENDER RE-ENTRY PROGRAM TO SERVE ELIGIBLE INMATES INCARCERATED IN OUR FACILITY.  THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO ASSIST INMATES BEING RELEASED INTO THE COMMUNITY.  A RE-ENTRY COORDINATOR WILL SERVE AS A LIAISON BETWEEN THE INMATE AND THE OUTSIDE AGENCIES TO EFFECT AN INDIVIDUALIZED PLAN TO MEET THE INMATES ’NEEDS, SUCH AS: HOMELESSNESS, EDUCATION, MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS, UNEMPLOYMENT, COUNSELING AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE ISSUES.  IN ADDITION THEY WILL RECEIVE SOME EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE TO PROVIDE BASIC NEEDS SUCH AS: FOOD, PROPER I.D. BUS PASS, BASIC HYGIENE PRODUCTS, CLOTHES AND SHELTER.

FATHER CHILD RESOURCE CENTER

THE PROJECT STRONG FATHERS/STRONG FAMILIES IS DESIGNED TO PROMOTE RESPONSIBLE FATHERHOOD TO  INCARCERATED FATHERS AND PROVIDE SERVICES TO MOTHERS AND CHILDREN OF THESE INCARCERATED FATHERS.  PARENTS WILL RECEIVE PARENTING CLASSES AND A SUPPORT GROUP WILL BE PROVIDED FOR THE CHILDREN UPON THE FATHERS’ RELEASE FROM JAIL. EXTENDED IN-HOME PARENTING EDUCATION  IS ALSO AVAILABLE. .

LIFE MANAGEMENT SKILLS

A REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA  INSTRUCTS THE INMATES ON DECISIONS FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING.  THEY LEARN HOW TO PLAN A BUDGET, OPEN A SAVINGS & CHECKING ACCOUNT AND HOW TO BALANCE THEIR CHECK BOOK.  THEY ARE ALSO TAUGHT HOW TO CONDUCT THEMSELVES DURING A JOB INTERVIEW.  THE INMATES ARE ALSO INSTRUCTED ON GOOD NUTRITIONAL CHOICES.

STEP STUDY

VOLUNTEERS FROM CELEBRATE RECOVERY CONDUCT THE 12 STEP PROGRAM IN DEALING WITH ALCOHOL AND DRUG ADDICTION AS WELL AS STRUGGLES WITH SEXUAL ADDICTION, DIFFICULTY IN OVERCOMING A HISTORY OF PHYSICAL OR SEXUAL ABUSE, OR ANGER AND CO-DEPENDENCY ISSUES.
