The Special Investigations Section consists of eighteen members who are divided into seven separate units: organized crime, street crime, drug diversion, tactical unit, agriculture, environmental and bomb units. During 2010 the Special Investigations Section made 1,179 arrests with 1,319 charges. These arrests were made by search warrants, oral intercepts, video buys, and arrest warrants. This section works everything from street-level drugs to organized crime.
Attached to this Division is a twenty-man ancillary S.W.A.T. Team including snipers, who are utilized an average of one thousand hours per year for call-outs and search warrant executions. The team also participates in S.W.A.T. competitions throughout the United States.In 2003 and then again 2006, they were ranked #1 in the United States after winning the National S.W.A.T Challenge in Spartenburg, South Carolina.
