The Uniform Division, commonly referred to as “Road Patrol”, is commanded by Captain Jeff Townsend with the assistance of Administrative Lieutenant Cedric Humphrey.

The Uniform Division works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There are four shifts which rotate to provide this coverage. The Watch Commanders who direct each shift are, Lieutenant Mike Ewing, Lieutenant Linda Miller-Rowe, Lieutenant Ken Pickering, and Lieutenant Bill Dowdy.

Deputies assigned to the Uniform Division are the first responders to virtually all calls for service received by the Sheriff’s Office. These men and women must be ready at all times to handle whatever crisis is thrown at them. Problems ranging from cats stuck in trees, to homicide, and everything in between. Deputies assigned to the Uniform Division effect more arrests and investigate more incidents than the combined total of all other divisions of the Martin County Sheriff’s office. Whether it be for D.U.I., or armed robbery, the uniform deputy must be able to discern the facts of an incident nearly instantaneously, and determine if those facts meet the elements of a crime, and make the appropriate decisions which will stand up to the scrutiny of the courts. During 2011, there were approximately 212,630 calls for service handled by Road Patrol.  These calls resulted in 4,392 arrests (2,112 felony and 2280 misdemeanor).

The Uniform Division is responsible for the patrol function for all of Martin County east of and including the Tropical Farms area, and from the St Lucie County line to the Palm Beach County Line. The proactive philosophy employed by deputies in the Uniform Division are instrumental in making Martin County a wonderful place to live and work.
