The Martin County Sheriff’s Office offers volunteer Boy Scouts of America Law Enforcement Explorer program for young men and women ages fourteen to twenty-one. Explorer Post 887 provides the opportunity to experience police work first hand, as well as develop leadership and citizenship skills that will impact them throughout their lives.

Explorer Post 887 participants have an opportunity to learn first hand about law enforcement officers, their training, and their role in the community. Explorers are trained in many aspects of law enforcement and are given a chance to perform many of the tasks a bonded law enforcement officer does everyday.

The Explorers receive officer training throughout the year and have the opportunity to complete the Explorer Academy. Areas of discipline include Basic Patrol Techniques, Water Certification, Traffic Stop, Accident Investigation, Problem Oriented Policing, Human Diversity, Report Writing, Criminal Justice System, and History/Role of Law Enforcement.
