Department of Corrections - Substance Fees/Medical Co-Pay

The State Legislature has found that there is an urgent need to alleviate the increasing financial burdens on local subdivisions of the state caused by the expenses of incarcerating prisoners. Florida State Statue allows for the collections of all, or a fair portion, of daily subsistence and reimbursement for expenses incurred in providing medical care, treatment, hospitalization, or transportation from the inmate receiving the service. All inmates shall receive the same level of care regardless of their ability to pay.

In an attempt to defray cost, The Martin County Corrections Department has initiated a Subsistence Fee Program and Medical Co-Pay Program. Revenue generated during the calendar year 2009 was:

SUBSISTENCE FEES:

Initial Processing Fee (after First Appearance) $20.00
Daily Subsistence Fee $3.00
Daily Work Release Fee $25.00
*-Weekender Processing Fee- (First Weekend) $20.00
*-Weekender per Day- $3.00

TOTAL SUBSISTENCE $173,535.11

TOTAL MEDICAL CO-PAY $ 16,388.48
